Flexible Discs for Industry
Flexible discs are coupling elements used in many industrial drives. Due to the ideal properties of the SGF flexible discs offered by us as a distribution partner of SGF, there are also numerous applications in general mechanical engineering.
Flexible discs are also known as "Hardy discs" or, less commonly, "Guibo couplings." They are made of an elastic material and contain integrated metal bushings.
Flexible discs decouple shafts from hard impacts and torque peaks, thus ensuring significantly smoother operation of the drive system. Flexible discs also compensate for slight misalignment and/or angular misalignment of drives, for example, in cardan shafts in vehicle construction. This is particularly necessary where one of the two interconnected system components can move slightly; in motor vehicles, for example, the transmission, which is not rigidly mounted.
Flexible discs are not suitable for angular misalignment greater than approximately 3°. Flexible couplings cannot be used for drives with flex discs because the flexing caused by heat would quickly destroy such a stressed disc. Therefore, these drives are implemented using cardan shafts, for example, with flexible couplings interposed for damping.
Note regarding custom-made Hardy flexible couplings:
Our selection of quality is a non-binding recommendation. We generally advise testing the suitability for the application in new developments and quality changes. No warranty is provided for the torque to be transmitted. Manufacturing is carried out according to samples, specifications, or in feasible dimensions.
We supply standard sizes ex-works in a wide variety of standardized and field-tested dimensions. A small selection from our "flex discs" product range can be found in this data sheet.
We also supply flexible couplings as custom-made products. You can use the PDF form "Custom-Made Flexible Couplings" for your inquiry.

Our manufacturing plant for industrial brake pads is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
